As moonlight cast haunting shadows upon the frayed edges of the journal, I could almost envision the young author, their sanity slowly unraveling, as they chronicled the sinister events that unfolded, blurring the lines between reality and nightmare in a dance of malevolent intrigue. The very act of transcribing their experiences onto paper appeared to invoke an ancient evil, one that lingered between the lines, eager to claw its way into our realm once more…

An eighth entry awaits…

A Stray Souls Story

Journal Entry #8 - ``Toxic Serendipity``

January 12, 2002

Today’s the day I’m going back to collect my stuff. I’m feeling jittery just thinking about stepping foot back into that apartment, but there’s really no other option.

Yesterday, I spent the entire day mulling over what to do about my apartment and my job. In the midst of all this, I stumbled onto a stroke of luck. Turns out, there’s another store in a nearby city that’s in dire need of a new general manager, and I’m taking the gig. It’s almost uncanny how perfectly the timing aligned with me requesting a transfer right when that position opened up.

Then, when I got in touch with the office at my apartment complex, they dropped a bombshell. Apparently, my neighbors two doors down were caught up in some shady business within their apartment. Whatever they were up to required the entire building to be evacuated until a cleaning crew could sort things out. Something about chemicals they were lugging in and out…

Long story short, they told me that this was the golden ticket to break my lease and move out. They even offered to cover my hotel expenses until I find a new place. Talk about luck, right?

I’ve even managed to snag a new apartment in the city I’m planning to relocate to. The whole process took about an hour, and I’m scheduled to check out my new digs in a few days and complete all the paperwork to move in.

All that’s left now is to pick up my rental truck and empty out my apartment. It’s not much, so I don’t anticipate being there for too long. Plus, I’m starting early, so I won’t have to deal with the dark.

I’m stocking up on lamps for my new apartment, though… And I really, really hope nothing decides to tag along for the ride.

That’s all for today! Thanks for joining us for an inside peek at Stray Souls!
