Hey folks, VS Dave here!

You already know the Versus Evil name, but who exactly are the people hard at work behind the scenes to bring you the best indie games around? Well, allow us to formally introduce ourselves!

This week, the series continues with Mark, our Marketing Coordinator. If you’ve seen our games on Steam, then you’ve already seen some of Mark’s handy work in action. He plays a substantial part in working with our various external partners and ensuring that our retail product pages are setup to perfection. He’s also amazingly adept at organizing our team’s cloud spaces. Seriously. You’ll never convince me that he’s not part wizard.

Meet Mark

Marketing Coordinator

How long have you been at Versus Evil?

Over 3 years.

What do you do here?

I’m mainly responsible for closely collaborating with Versus Evil’s developers and external partners to create and deliver marketing assets. Once those assets are finalized, I use them to set up our titles in developer portals for PC and consoles.

I also perform other tasks such as managing the Versus Evil Confluence database, managing our Dropbox, and setting up news posts for all our Steam sales. That’s just scratching the surface of the many things I do in my role.

What’s your favorite game of all time?

Mass Effect 2. [EDITOR’S NOTE: Uh, easily the best Mass Effect game of all time!]

If you could design your perfect game, what would it be like?

My favorite type of games are story-driven games, especially ones with dialogue choices and branching narratives. Games like that already handle those things pretty well, but if I was developing my own IP in that style, I’d definitely want more complex systems in place that react to the player and their actions even more than current games of that type do.

“Illusion of choice” is a hot topic of discussion in gaming, and with technology evolving seemingly every day, my hope is “illusion of choice” will be a thing of the past while choices with meaningful, varied outcomes will be the new standard for story-driven games.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

I obviously play games, but besides that, I play several musical instruments including guitar, drums, and bass. Writing and acting are my other creative outlets. I also absolutely love to travel, and one of my favorite things to do is travel to different conventions. I’ve never felt more at home than when I’m at a convention, as they’re where I’m able to socialize in a judgement-free zone and really just get to be me.

Do you have any pets?

Not at this time, but hopefully one day!

Where can people find you on social media?

I’m on Twitter and Instagram.
