Hey folks, VS Dave here!

You already know the Versus Evil name, but who exactly are the people hard at work behind the scenes to bring you the best indie games around? Well, allow us to formally introduce ourselves!

Welp, I guess it’s my turn, because this week, the series continues with little ol’ me! I’ve actually known Steve (our founder & GM) for going on fifteen years now, and we’ve worked together quite a bit, which is how I ended up here.

Funnily enough, and to illustrate what a small world the games industry is, Francis (our Director of Product Strategy) and I also crossed paths at previous jobs. I think he likes me better now, though. Maybe.

Meet Dave (aka “Huley”)

Community Lead & Influencer Relations Manager

How long have you been at Versus Evil?

I started back in December of 2020, but I’ve been in the games industry for a long, long time. Prior to VE, I spent a little over four years as the Community Manager for BioWare Edmonton, and I’ve got a rather extensive background in specialty games retail.

What do you do here?

As Community Lead, I’m ultimately responsible for a team of four exceptionally talented people who make my job so fun and rewarding! The bulk of my work is in building digital content strategies around our games, which includes developing content for social media & web, and creating livestream campaigns with our Heralds, content creators, and external partners.

I also work closely with our developers, marketing team, public relations partners, and producers on a wide range of projects. No two days are ever the same and I love it!

What’s your favorite game of all time?

Growing up, it was always Chrono Trigger, which I still love very much. Now days, it’s definitely the Mass Effect Trilogy. I make time to play through it at least once or twice a year. Sometimes more. I start to miss Garrus if I go too long in-between plays.

If you could design your perfect game, what would it be like?

I wrote a sci-fi/noir book trilogy a few years back, and I always thought it would’ve made a fun game series. Something with the narrative style and aesthetic of Alan Wake meets L.A. Noire meets BioShock. It would have an unforgettable story, multiple POV character arcs, action, and a detective/sleuthing component.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

My biggest passion in life, outside of games, is music. I write and record under the name Twelve Days in June. I’ve been told that my music sounds like I never left the 90s, and in a way, I suppose that’s probably true!

Do you have any pets?

I’ve got a 12-year-old Welsh Terrier named Tobi Wan Kenobi, but my wife and I call her Tobi for short. She’s adorable and very, very snuggly, but everything people say about Terriers is 1000% accurate. 😊

I enjoy Photoshopping her into ridiculous scenes.
